The GR4 Auto is the centrifuge of choice when a centrifugation step has to be integrated in an automated system, whether this is for pre-analytical sample preparation, preparation and purification of nucleic acids, cell pelleting... It offers the following automated functions:
- automated lid opening and closing
- automated rotor indexing
- automated lifting of the bucket above the lid for the easiest handling of tubes and plates by an external robot. Customers can therefore save on the robot side by using a standard, simple plate handling robot. This function is unique on the market.
- automated bucket cover removal. This optional feature is useful in a configuration for blood tubes, when customers want to maximize biosafety by using bucket covers.
With a rotor speed up to 3500 rpm (adjustable, 100 rpm steps), and a RCF up to 2500 g, the GR4 Auto is suited to most high-throughput applications, where automation is needed.
Thanks to a motor specifically designed and manufactured by Jouan, rotor indexing is extremely precise (+/- 0,18°).
The same motor is used for precise indexing and high-speed spinning, which adds to high-throughput : right in the deceleration curve the optical encoder already constantly checks for rotor positioning. No dead time.
A revolutionary piston system lifts the bucket above the instrument cover for the easiest sample access.
In the microplate configuration, only the plate holder is lifted, not the entire bucket, maximizing plate access. Even the simplest plate handling robots can load and unload the GR4 Auto.
Accessories and capacity
The centrifuge is available with various rotating equipment configurations for plates, tubes, or racks of tubes. All are swing-out rotors with 4 buckets. The maximum capacity of the GR4 Auto is:
- up to 12 shallow-well (or 4 deep-well) plates. It can process stack of plates over 80 mm height, which makes it the ideal instrument to process filter or extraction plates positioned on deep-well blocks.
- up to 96 vacutainers (other tubes formats are possible)
- up to 8 racks of 5 tubes (Stago / Hitach type racks)
Various buckets for tubes and plates (shallow or deep-well) are available
In the microplate configuration, plates can be stacked up to 80 mm in each bucket - enough for stacking one filter plate and one deep-well plate.
Software control and integration
All automated functions, as well as centrifugation and refrigeration parameters, are controlled through a standard RS-232 interface, switchable to RS-485.
In addition, an ActiveX component is provided as standard, with all macro commands necessary for control of the instrument from a master software.
