The JOUAN Robotics Award recognizes an individual who has made substantive
contributions to laboratory automation and laboratory process improvement.
Contributions to the field are expected in the form of scholarly publications
and public speaking engagements, as well as management of the design and
implementation of a significant laboratory automation project.
Call for Nominations
To be considered for this award all applicants must complete the application
form and submit it in the requested format.
The Administrative Sequence of Events
- The invitation to participants is published in various scientific journals
and is communicated to a large number of laboratories involved in laboratory
automation.
- Laboratories interested in responding to the invitation may download
the nomination form, or it may be requested from the Jouan Robotics
Award Committee or Jouan
Robotics directly.
- The correctly completed application should be submitted electronically
no later than midnight, November 14, 2003, or the required number of
copies should be
mailed as directed on the form and postmarked no later than 14 November
2003.
- The nominations will be examined by the Jouan Robotics Award Committee
which is composed of international scientific experts drawn from
the ALA membership.
The members of the Award Committee and their immediate families will
not be eligible.
- The winner of the Jouan Robotics Award will be notified on or before
December 31, 2003.
- The Award will be presented to the winner during the LabAutomation
2004 Conference in San Jose, California, February 1-5, 2004.
The winner will
give a presentation
of his work during the LabAutomation 2004 Conference.
- Each nomination form is confidential and will not be disclosed
outside the JOUAN ROBOTICS Award Committee, except as required
by law.
Conditions for receiving the Jouan Robotics Award
- This is an international award. Nominations will be accepted from all
individuals contributing to laboratory automation and laboratory process
improvement affiliated with any institution (academic, industry, government,
or other) from anywhere in the world.
- All nominees must be over 18 years old.
- Selection of the Prize winner will be made solely on the basis of
the candidate's accomplishments in laboratory automation and laboratory
process improvement
without regard to race, gender, nationality, geographic location, or
religious or political views.
- The nomination form must describe an innovative project concerning
laboratory automation and must clearly prove the original character
of the project.
The nomination form must be submitted in English.
The winner must give a presentation of their work at the LabAutomation
2004 Conference.
- The winner can choose to have the financial award paid directly to
their institution or to themselves. (The award will be considered
as taxable
income to the recipient.)
- If payable to the winner’s institution, it should be used to cover the
cost of equipment, operation, and salaries of the winner’s laboratory.
- The prize will be awarded on the advice of the JOUAN Award Committee
(subject to the standard rules and regulations outlined in
the ALA bylaws) which will
make its choice based upon:
- The originality of the subject
- The soundness of the scientific argument
- Feasibility, upon the presentation of the preliminary results
The Financial Award The Jouan Robotics Award of a sum of US $10,000 will be given to the winner
in the form of a bank check at the LabAutomation2004 Conference in San
Jose, California, February 1-5, 2004. |
